GLW100528: The Coffin Route Reversed
Ambleside to Grasmere

28th May 2010

Oh dear.  I am sure I wrote notes about this walk immediately afterwards but I don't know where they are now!!  My recollections are of:

  • a fine afternoon taking advantage of the free bus pass to Ambleside
  • walking the wrong way along the Coffin route to Grasmere
  • spectacular Rhododendrons
  • Rydal cave visible on the other side of the lake
  • various large stones on which the coffin would be rested
  • visiting St Oswald's Church in Grasmere (much more impressive inside than out)
    and various shops
  • then returning free on the 555.
