GLW1705 : The TRAINERboys&girls Recce

Sunday 23rd April 2017

This was a GLW with a difference.  Its main purpose was a TRAINERboys&girls recce for the 47DON=70 event.

Here is the route from Staveley to Potter Tarn, returning along the River Kent:

Start at the Hawkshead Brewery, Staveley
and head south across its front towards the bowling green

Tun left before the bowling green

Cross the Millenium Bridge and turn left

Turn left when the path meets the road

Turn right up the track between the houses;
if you reach the road junction you have gone too far

Through the field

Another field, keep heading up by the wall; it is quite a steep climb

Over the ladder stile

Through the gap

Continue climbing

Another stile, near the top

Last one (I think)

Down to the farm yard

Turn right along the road

Then left at the junction

Through gate to the right of the house

Another gate

Across the stream and turn right

Through a gate by the stream

And one beyond the old wagon

Through a gate to a farm track.....

..... which you cross and go up the hill

Carry on up the hill to Potter Tarn

Take the lesser path down to the tarn (ignore waymarker)

Climb back up by the broken wall

Left over the stile

Down to the dam.  Carry on up the hill path if you are going to Gurnal Dubbs.
Then return to the dam.

Down by the stream

Towards The Ghyll Pool

Carry on beyond it

PLEASE LATCH GATE PROPERLY.  TA

Don't get caught out by the gate step drop

Turn right at the path junction (very easily missed)

Through the farm yard and along track

Turn right when you meet the road

After Hagg Foot buildings turn left.....

..... left again in the yard.....

..... and right down to the river.

The bridge was washed away in the storm so turn right

Turn left at the logs to keep alongside the river (and the bluebells)

After a long stretch by the river through light woodland,
turn right when you see the stone wall

Left when the path meets the road

Left onto footpath at the sewage works through a field of junk

Over the stile (or through the gate)

Through gate by the river

The main path goes across the field but it is more pleasant to loop round by the river

The paths meet up.  Go over the ladder stile

Bear right toward the white house

Bear leftish once past the trees to the field corner

Through the gate

Past the house and across the track to footpath

Along the path that leads back to .....

..... the Millenium Bridge

Retrace your initial steps.....

.....to the Brewery Beer Hall
