BB2334 : Poetry In Motion

Wednesday 6th December 2023

It’s rather annoying really.  Several people have commented on how much they enjoyed my BB2333 report last week, written in Free Verse.

Sadly I had to tell them that, actually, it was Mike B who was the poet and I wasn’t even on that walk.

Anyway, to put things on an even keel, I thought that I should write this report in my type of ode.  Here it is with apologies to Johnny Tillotson: Poetry in Motion.

Four BOOTboys went for a walk

With waffle and blether and talk

Barbon Beck then Bull Pot,

Brownthwaite and then what?

The sight of a circling hawk.

At Bull Pot, a friendly young chap

Showed us a big caving map

He said, it goes on for miles

with tunnels, not stiles

When he'd done, we gave him a clap.

We'd started at ten from Bar-bon

That’s Robert and Tony and Don

Robin brought Holly

T’was all rather jolly

Plus ale when t’walk were all done.

So that’s the end of my rhyme

It’s saved me oodles of time

Maybe next week

I’ll give things a tweak

And send the report out in mime!

Meanwhile- Bryan was on Red Screes

 Or was it White Screes?

Comments :

Mike B:  Excellent, a true laureate in waiting. Poetry in Motion was the first 45 rpm I bought.

Don:  Thanks Mike.  I don't recall actually buying it but PiM was one of my early teens favourites.

Robin:  Brilliant report Don - most entertaining! A wave out on the ocean could never sway that way - what a line. They don't write 'em like that anymore.  By-the-by I read the caver's report on their epic underground travels. I think you have to be a little crazy to do what they did!

Don:  Thanks Robin.  Suggest you delete "little crazy" then insert "notifiably insane".
