BB2611 :  Better.  Smarter.  More STRATEGIC.

Wednesday 8th April 2026

We had a plan — a great plan. Really tremendous. There were going to be six, maybe seven, very strong walkers: TV Mike, Robin, Don (the organiser, fantastic organiser, by the way), Stan, Martin, Bryan… and of course, me. A top group. Elite. People were talking about it.

And then — the lurgi. Nasty stuff. Very unfair. One by one they dropped out. Not good. But I’ll tell you this — it actually solved a major parking problem. We had logistics, big logistics, complicated, people were worried. Suddenly? Gone. Fixed. Some are calling it genius.

Turns out — and this is true — the road was CLOSED. Tree felling. Big trees. Huge. Nobody saw it coming. If we’d all turned up? Total disaster. Chaos. But we didn’t — because of the lurgi. So in a way… very smart.

So the remaining elite unit — Bryan, Martin, and Mike — met at Staveley.

Strong group. Very strong. We looked at the original plan: the WOLF. The Wainwright Outlying Fells. A serious undertaking. People are saying too serious.

And we said — no. We’re not doing that. We’re doing something better. Smarter. More STRATEGIC

So we went to Gurnal Dubs Outdoor Swimming Club. And let me tell you — what we saw there — INCREDIBLE PEOPLE, swimming in a reservoir. Cold water. Very cold. Possibly the coldest. Brave people. Some say heroic.

The day? Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Couldn’t have ordered it better. We had a tremendous lunch stop — really top-tier — morale was high, spirits were strong.

Stats — because people love stats:

Over 1,000 feet climbed (very respectable, very strong numbers)

6.7 miles walked — efficient, powerful walking

And then — and this is important — gelato. Fantastic GELATO. World-class. Thanks to Martin. A great man. Generous. People are talking about that gelato.

So despite the setbacks — the lurgi, the road closure, the cancelled WOLF — this turned into a highly successful operation. Some are even calling it… the BEST-ADJUSTED walk in Boot Boys history.

And frankly?

They might be RIGHT.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.  Michael J BOOTBOY
